Author Guidelines

General Guidelines

     
  1. Follow guidelines strictly

  10.  
  11. There should not be more than three authors of one article. However, there may be four or maximum five authors, if the article is on an inter-sectoral package.

  13. Name(s) of author(s), Complete postal address(es) of affiliations.

  15. Complete correspondence address including e-mail address of authors should be provided.
  16.  
  17. Avoid repetition

  19. Units in metric system; full forms of all abbreviations used in table; source of data should be given in detail. Units of measurement, symbols and standard abbreviations should conform to those recommended by the International Union of Biochemistry (IUB) and the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC). Metric measurements are preferred, and dosages should be expressed entirely in metric units (SI units). In exceptional circumstances, others may be used, provided they are consistent.

Figures

Author is required to submit high-resolution images, preferably with the initial submission but no later than revision stage. Electronic images (figures and schemes) must be at a minimum resolution of 600 d.p.i. for line drawings (black and white) and 300 d.p.i. for color or grayscale. Please ensure that the prepared electronic image files print at a legible size.

Language

Papers should be composed in MS Word, and double spaced throughout (including references and tables). Article (including illustrations) should be sent after a careful check-up of typographical errors.

Research Article

Preparation of manuscript

Organization of Text: A Full Paper should not exceed 10 pages when printed (maximum 15,000 words). The contents should be organized as:

General Guidelines

     
  1. Title: It should be short, concise and informative, typed in first letter capital, latin name italicized.
  2.  
  3. Authors: Name of the authors be typed in all capitals with each name separated by comma, except for the last two which are separated by and.
  4.  
  5. Abstract: This should not exceed 250 words and should indicate main findings of the paper, without presenting experimental details and without any abbreviations, but wherever appropriate quantitative data may be given and should contain a conclusion.
  6.  
  7. Key Words: There should be 4-5 key words indicating the contents of the MS and should follow the abstract, be arranged alphabetically, key word should not be repeat of the title.
  8.  
  9. Results: Data should be presented in text, tables or figures. Repetition of data in two or three forms be avoided. All quantitative data should be in standard in metric units. Each table, figure or illustration must have a self-contained legend.
  10.  
  11. Materials and Methods: Experiment design and methodology to be explained, describe statistical procedures followed with references wherever applicable. Names of unusual proprietary materials and special apparatus should be followed by the manufacturers name (manual, city, state, country).
  12.  
  13. Results: This should be presented in orderly manner, using Tables, and figures wherever necessary. Materials presented in tables should not be repeated in figures.
  14.  
  15. Discussion: The discussion normally should be presented separately from the Results, and it should be noted that simple restatement of results in it does not constitute adequate discussion. The Discussion should be focused on the work presented and its relationship with other relevant published work highlighting the strengths and weaknesses.

  17. Units and Quantities: SI units are preferred. Others should be related to SI units at the first mention. Numbers proceeding units should be written as numerals; those preceding other items up to nine should be spelt out; e.g. 8 cm, 2 days, nine fields, 10 leaves etc.

General Guidelines

Figures

Captions should describe the contents so that each figure should be understandable.

These should be numbered in a separate series and referred to with Arabic numerals in the text as, e.g. Fig. 1, etc. Figure legends should appear on the same page and be self-explanatory and without abbreviations.

Good quality computer generated figures should be supplied in TIF or JPEG format (600 dpi)

All photographs, graphs and diagrams should be referred to as Fig. and should be numbered consecutively. Line drawings should be made in undiluted black ink on smooth white card or tracing paper. Original and three Photostat copies should be drawn approximately twice the size of reproduction. Original should not be labeled and should also not be numbered. The three copies, however, should have full labelling and numbering. The microphotographs/ electron microscopic photographs should have magnification and bar scale. Provide a detailed legend (without abbreviations) to each figure.

Photographs should be on glossy paper and have good contrast. Trim unnecessary areas. Three copies of the photographs should be provided. If the photographs are to be grouped in a plate, one set should be mounted and the other two sets un-mounted. On the back of photographs write names of authors, figure numbers and indicate top of the photographs with an arrow using a soft pencil. Show magnification with a bar or scale. Coloured photographs can be printed on payment of full printing cost by the authors. Legends for figures should be typed separately and numbered consecutively.

Table

Each table should be self-explanatory with an appropriate caption. Table should be referred to in the text with Arabic numerals as, e.g. Table 1, etc. In the Results section, do not state ‘Table 1 shows the results of a given test describe the results of the test and then indicate which table shows them. The description should not repeat the results of the table but can draw attention to particular or general features of them. Refer to tables in the sequence in which they are presented.

It should be typed on separate page and numbered sequentially. Tables should have a descriptive heading. Authors are advised to avoid large tables with complex columns. Data should be restricted to only one or two decimal figures only. Transformed values should be included only if these are discussed.

References

The authors are requested to limit the no. of references (upto 10 in Short Communication and upto 30 in Full Paper). References should be cited by authors and date: Gupta (1985), Gupta et al. (1985) or (Gupta and Chenulu, 1985) in the text. All the journal title should be abbreviated according to International standard abbreviation. References should be arranged in alphabetical order and listed at the end of the paper as follows:

Author Conflict of Interest Statement

Authors must acknowledge the organizations that have provided financial support for their work. Any other conflict of interest must be declared while submitting the manuscripts.

Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submissions compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

     
  1. The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  2.  
  3. The submission file is in Microsoft Word file format.
  4.  
  5. The text is double-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  6.  
  7. If submitting to a peer-reviewed section of the journal, the instructions in Ensuring a Blind Review have been followed.
  8.  
  9. Article is based on recent experiments or practical experience of the author. Data is correct, authentic and updated.
  10.  
  11. Article is not based on compiled matter or on some survey, report or record of extension education.
  12.  
  13. Article is not of theoretical nature or only of local relevance. Article text gives complete relevant details of practical utility to the farmer in clear and simple English.

Short Communication

Short Communication should not exceed 3000 words and should not be treated as preliminary communication for an incomplete study. It should include a brief abstract (not exceeding 150 words) and key words. The division of the text in to sections by way of heading should be omitted. Figures and Tables should be kept to a minimum. References should not give full titles of papers, books etc. and should be numbered. In the text, references should be cited by numbers in parentheses.

Book Reviews

Should not exceeding 1500 words. Although Book Reviews are generally solicited/commissioned, unsolicited reviews will also be considered. Reviews must not merely list brief descriptions of the contents of a book.

News

Should not exceeding 1000 words, can cover important scientific events or any other news of interest to scientists in general.
